Disciple Bible Study

Jesus-in-the-Gospels.jpgWant to feel more at home in the Bible? Our fall Disciple sign-ups begin each year in early August, with classes starting to meet after Labor Day.

Disciple is a serious commitment to “becoming disciples through Bible study.” Led by specially trained leaders, participants grow together as part of a 12-person study group over a 9-month period. Group members agree to spend time in daily preparation and weekly discussion classes from early September through May each year.

We offer the following Disciple courses (Disciple I is the required first-year course):

  • Disciple I: Becoming Disciples Through DisciplePhoto.jpgBible Study, a 34-week journey through the entire Old and New Testaments. The Disciple series assumes that the Bible is God's primary means of making himself known to us. Through video presentations and a variety of learning methods, Disciple I participants begin to find themselves at home in the Scriptures. We hope to offer the introductory Disciple I course (a 36-week exploration of the Old and New Testaments) in evening, daytime, and Westside classes this year.
  • Disciple II: Into the Word/Into the World, a 32-week journey through Genesis/Exodus and Luke/Acts. Serious, disciplined Bible study is combined with the practice of spiritual disciplines to develop biblically nourished members and leaders.
  • Disciple III: Remember Who You Are, a 32-week journey through the Prophets and the Letters of Paul. In a powerful way, the Bible provides a memory that sustains us, tells us who we are, and gives us a vision of what we can become. As with all Disciple courses, video components, the support of a small group for study and prayer, and a variety of learning styles provide a rich and meaningful experience.
  • Disciple IV: A Journey Through "The Writings" of the Old Testament, John, and Revelation. "The Writings" (narratives of Exile and Return, poetry and wisdom) appeal to the heart more than the head. This 32-week New Testament study of John's Gospel and Letters culminates in a magnificent video presentation of Revelation as an act of worship.
  • Jesus in the Gospels, a 30-week study that invites believers to look at Jesus in each of the four Gospels and ask the question, "Who is the Jesus that you see?" This study will deepen discipleship through better understanding of the biblical texts and their message. This study looks at the way each Gospel writer presents events and teachings and at the picture of Jesus that emerges in each of the Gospels.
  • Christian Believer, a 30-week journey through the classical doctrines of the Christian faith, exploring what Christians believe and why. This course considers the ways the church’s ancient and modern theologians have made sense of faith, discovering how informed believing leads to committed discipleship.
