Ministries for Seniors
Sandia offers many opportunities for seniors. The following activities are not restricted by age, but they tend to cater to seniors' hours, interests, and availability:
Sonshine Gang, which meets for lunch at 11:30 a.m. at
Perennials Restaurant on the fourth Thursday of most months.
Senior Basketball (HORSE) in the Family Life Center gym every Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
50+ Basketball every week at 5:30 p.m. (except during Upward Basketball, when it moves to Mondays at 7:30 p.m.) for those who want pick-up games that are a little more strenuous but not as much as the drop-in adult basketball each week.
Merry Mailers, a congenial gathering to stuff newsletter envelopes and affix mailing labels every other Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
ETC Shoppe, a multi-age gathering of crafters whose creations are sold at the annual holiday sale and throughout the year to raise funds for Sandia. Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. at the church.
Prayer Shawl Ministry, multi-age groups that meets once a month (first Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. or first Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. each month) to help each other knit or crochet prayer shawls for people going through difficult times.
In addition to prayer shawls, this ministry is now making baby blankets and newborn baby caps for local new-mother charities. Beginning knitters/crocheters as well as experienced crafters are invited.
Quilting Ministry presents babies with quilts when they are baptized. The group meets at SPC on the second and fourth Mondays at 9:30 a.m. For more information please contact Lorna Loeffler, 856-5040 x115. We need more quilters!
RMGE, a group of retired men who seek to market small inventions to benefit local charities. Meetings are scheduled irregularly.
20/20 Club, a monthly support/education/fellowship group for low-vision people of any age and their families and caretakers. Usuall the second Wednesday each month during the school year at 2:00 p.m., with two noon potlucks each year.
Travel Outings, everything from short, local trips to weeks-long tours of the Holy Land.
Other Hands-On Ministry Opportunities include a wide range of activities, everything from drilling wells or teaching hygiene in Central America with Living Water Int'l., to cuddling babies in the nursery during worship, to praying for members and the community as part of the Prayer Chain, to coaching, keeping time, or delivering half-time devotions in Upward Basketball. For more information see the Help Wanted page in the Local and Distant Missions section, announcements on the Newsletter page, and announcements on the Bulletin Board page, or contact the directors of Children's Ministries, Youth Ministries, Caring Ministries, or any other ministries. We always need willing hands and hearts!
