Cancer Support. If you have experienced cancer (just diagnosed, patient, survivor, caregiver, friend, and/or family) and need information or contacts, or just want to talk to someone who has been there, Cancer Survivors Offering Support and SPC offer free support and one-on-one discussions for those in all stages of cancer and caregiving. Services are provided by trained cancer survivors and caregivers. (Professional medical advice, consultation or services not provided, but the group can help you find those services.) Spring 2012 Family Cancer Retreat. This April, over 250 people from more than 100 New Mexican families coping with cancer will attend the Family Cancer Retreat. This free, three-day educational program provides New Mexico's adult cancer patients/survivors and their loved ones with the tools and information they need to better manage the treatment and survival process. The entire program, including meals, lodging, and all educational sessions, is provided at no cost to participants. This program is offered each year in Spring and Fall. Dance It Up! isn't a support group, but it fills a similar need, offering monthly dances and socializing for Albuquerque's autistic and developmentally delayed community (18+) and fun-loving friends.The next dance will be in March, due to Upward Basketball games in January and February.
Compassionate Friends, a support group for those who have lost children, meets the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7:00 p.m.
20/20 Club, a low-vision support group, meets the second Wednesday of most months, usually at 2:00 p.m. On February 8 the meeting will focus on exercise, training, and support groups, as well as providing information on home care. A chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
