SPC Postings

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading. Registration for the 2010-2011 season begins Tuesday, September 7. Registration forms can be picked up at SPC and returned here with payment ($70 for basketball or cheerleading, plus optional $15 for uniform). We recommend registering as soon as possible, both to ensure a place for your child and to keep costs down--after September 27 a $10 late fee is added. Upward Basketball and Cheerleading is for boys and girls in grades 1-6. Emphasis is placed on skills, team play, and sportsmanship--there are no winners or losers for either individual games or for the season, and referees do more than call games--they often teach during games. Please see the FAQs under "More Information" on this page.

New Sunday Schedule. Remember that our Sunday schedule will change on August 29: traditional services at 8:30 and 9:45; classes at 9:45; contemporary service at 11:15; more classes for adults at 11:00; and all services in the sanctuary.

HOA! is unique in that volunteers may be of any age, and they, themselves, may receive services from other members. Volunteers generally work one-on-one with frail elderly, allowing them to remain in their homes and communities instead of being institutionalized. Services generally fall into four categories: transportation, household management, nutrition, and socialization. HOA! benefits include:

  • Supplemental accident and liability coverage while on duty
  • Mileage and meal reimbursement (where applicable)
  • Volunteers set their own schedules and activities
  • Volunteers work within their own geographic area
  • Volunteers develop friendships with their clients
  • Annual recognition even, newsletter, and special mailings.
