Presbyterian Healthcare Services. PHS needs fabric and yarn for its baby-blanket-makers. Please drop off at Presbyterian Downtown Hospital--no need to park, just pull in the circle and leave at the main Information Desk. Volunteers also are needed at Presbyterian facilities all over the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho metro area. Come serve in one of 40 areas and make new friends. Cloud Dancers of the Southwest, a therapeutic horseback-riding program based in Albuquerque for persons with disabilities, is seeking new volunteers to help with its program. Classes are held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Orientation for new volunteers is held as needed. Hands On Albuquerque! (HOA!) Volunteer Program. The City of Albuquerque's Dept. of Senior Affairs runs HOA!, an organization of 150 volunteers serving people over the age of 60 throughout Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. HOA! is unique in that volunteers may be of any age, and they, themselves, may receive services from other members. Volunteers generally work one-on-one with frail elderly, allowing them to remain in their homes and communities instead of being institutionalized. Services generally fall into four categories: transportation, household management, nutrition, and socialization. HOA! benefits include:
- Supplemental accident and liability coverage while on duty
- Mileage and meal reimbursement (where applicable)
- Volunteers set their own schedules and activities
- Volunteers work within their own geographic area
- Volunteers develop friendships with their clients
- Annual recognition even, newsletter, and special mailings.

Computer Recycling:
Computer ReRuns, 5445 Edith NE, is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. There is a $10 charge for monitors and television sets. Computer ReRuns refurbishes some computers for schools or other organizations, and ships the rest to Natural Solutions in Oklahoma for recycling.
Enchantment Electronic Recycling, 4400 Silver SE, Suite B, is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. There is a $10 charge for computer monitors and television sets. The firm takes "anything that plugs in or has batteries." The staff refurbish any equipment they can and send it to children in Mexico and Belize. Everything else is sent to a nationwide network of recyclers.
You may drop off old computers and peripheral equipment at Sandia Computers (3625 Wyoming Blvd. NE) on the third Saturday of each month, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending when the truck fills up--typically between 11:00 a.m. and noon. This equipment will be refurbished for charitable purposes or dismantled to recover parts and potentially toxic materials, thus reducing landfill volume and potential groundwater contamination. If you need to drop off materials at other times, call 232-9483 to schedule a drop-off time at a downtown location. There is no charge to dispose of monitors or other components.
