Service Groups

Shawl Ministry—We have people who knit and crochet prayer shawls for those needing God’s comfort and support during difficult times. Contact Karen McCullough at 821-8511 for information on how to become involved, or if you know someone who could benefit from a shawl. This ministry also needs monetary contributions to buy supplies.

The group meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. No experience is needed—instruction and assistance are available.

This ministry has expanded its "volunteer giving" to making baby blankets and newborn baby caps for local new-mother charities, as well as shawls for hospice patients. Beginning knitters/crocheters as well as experienced crafters are encouraged to join either group. There are many new patterns and ideas available to inspire you. Volunteers continue to make prayer shawls to keep up the supply, and they encourage all to share shawls with those who need a special expression of God's love at a difficult time.

Etc. Shoppe—This multigenerational group shares fun, fellowship, and the love of creation. They paint, sew, crochet, and wield a mean glue gun! Meetings are held each Tuesday, 9:30 a.m.-noon. The creative efforts culminate in an annual bazaar in early November, with proceeds going to SPC causes (thousands of dollars each year!). For more information contact Linda Kirby, 797-7069. Come and have some fun, whether or not you consider yourself "crafty"!

Merry Mailers—This congenial group gathers on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. to prepare the church newsletter for mailing—stuffing envelopes, applying labels, and sharing stories. For more information contact Benji Elder, 823-9344.

Parish Nurses—Registered Nurses from our congregation help with blood pressure screenings once a month, as well as hospital visits, phone visits, and home visits for our members. If you would like to refer one of our congregation members to the Parish Nurses or are interested in helping with this ministry, please call Betsy Everett, 828-0674.

Food Pantry—Sandia maintains a modest food pantry that provides emergency food to individuals in the church and the community, and weekly, rotating  donations to four community food programs: Albuquerque Rescue Mission, APS Title I Homeless Project, Project Share, and South Albuquerque Food Project. Donations are collected on an ongoing basis in Fellowship Hall and the Family Life Center lobby, with special collection drives at least five times/year. The committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. For more information contact the church office (856-5040) or Martha Montaño, 822-8223.

Boy Scout Troop 1Sandia sponsors Boy Scout Troop 1, which meets in the portable classroom every Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Visitors are always welcome! Please use this link to learn more about the troop:  http://www.troop1online.org.
