Family Life Center

Our Family Life Center (FLC) includes a gym, stage, and kitchen, in addition to several classrooms. It allows Sandia to offer a variety of recreation, fitness, and social opportunities.

Concerts, Plays, and Comedy
We regularly host musical and comedy concerts in our Family Life Center. Some of these are produced in-house, some are sponsored by Sandia but bring in outside performers, and some feature outside groups. All such events are open to the community. Some are free, and some charge admission, depending on the nature of the performance and the wishes of the sponsoring organization.

Dance It Up!
A group at SPC plans and hosts monthly dances for Albuquerque’s autistic and developmentally delayed community (ages 18+). All are welcome, not just the target community. Dances usually are on the fourth Friday each month. The next dance will be Hippie Night on Friday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m. $2. Please click here to sign up to help out.

Recreational Basketball
Senior Basketball (HORSE)—Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m.
50+ Basketball—Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.
Open Adult Basketball—Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading
Begun at Sandia in 2002, Upward Basketball (www.upward.org/findaleague) is an ecumenical outreach ministry provides a supportive rather than cutthroat atmosphere for boys and girls in grades 1-6 to compete in grade-level teams that are balanced to give everyone an equal chance of winning. (There are no co-ed teams.) Practices begin in November each year, with games and continuing practices in January and February.

Registration for the 2010-2011 season is underway. Registration forms may be picked up at SPC and returned here with payment ($70 for basketball or cheerleading, plus optional $15 for uniform). We recommend registering as soon as possible, both to ensure a place for your child and to keep costs down--after September 27 a $10 late fee is added.

Christmas Play Auditions

Sunday, Sepember. 12, 2:30-3:30 p.m., on the FLC stage. We need actors and singers of all ages, plus back-stage workers. Everyone who auditions participates. Lots of fun! Contact Faye Reeves, 822-0305.
